The golden rule
The golden rule by Alive to God
How we treat others is one of the most vital aspects to enjoying success within ourselves and in life. If we cannot find it in our hearts to be kind and to show kindness, we will be the poorer. How do you treat others? Is life all about you or do you consider how you can add value to the lives of others? Next to loving God this is the most important thing to God. Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ You may ask, what is the Golden Rule? Perhaps you have heard of this rule. It is meant to be the basis upon which we live our lives. Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. (NIV) The question I always ask myself is how would I like to be treated? I can remember a time in my life when I dealt harshly with people. It was always for the greater good, but in harshness. Now as I look back and reflect, the greater good seems insignificant in the light of some of the regrets. Sometimes we treat people out of a sense of justification. We feel we are justified to treat certain people in certain ways, or we justify it by thinking we have the greater good at heart. At other times we treat people with a paternalistic attitude, thinking that we know what is in their best interests. The question is, how would you like to be treated? Luke 6:31 As you would like and desire that men would do to you, do exactly so to them. (Amplified). Luke 6:31 Do for others as you would like them to do for you. (Living).
