Detachment with love gains new meaning

Had to smile, I told a friend that I was detaching from my friend Bert who I went to the Roundup with. There was no love there, just a need to do what was good for my own recovery. I think he expected me to sit with him, but that is not how it works for me. He chose to buy a ticket after I bought mine, and he escorted me there. We are not in a relationship and I have no desire to be in one. Even if we were, I would still have gone to Al-Anon, because that is what I needed. I know I am also a recovering Alcoholic, and I did hear a few speakers and that was good.

When you keep and add love to the equation, you make it more difficult to detach. We do it because we love them, and because we detach, doesn't mean we don't love them, it means for their HIGHER GOOD and mine, it is best to do what we both need for our recovery. When it comes to my son, he chooses to use. It is his choice and has nothing to do with me. When it isn't good for me, I need to set boundaries and detach from what he is doing.
