Our Family Our Recovery

Though the solution to our problem may be simple, the problem itself is very complex and often hard to understand even by those of us who have it, and even harder for those who don't have it. This problem tends to run in families and when one of us reaches the point where we begin recovery all eyes are now on us. Everybody is watching us to see what we're going to do next. It's important we know what we can and can't do when it comes to our families and recovery. The first thing we'll need to know is not all of them are going to be supportive, and that's okay, because at this point it's usually every person for themselves anyways. If we're able to practice the program of recovery to the best of our ability we'll be doing all that we can do to help those who don't understand our problem. Doing this will also keep us from being tripped up by them causing us to lose sight of recovery, which as we go along will become more and more important to us. There will be those in our family who will embrace what we're doing now and those that don't, either way we'll have to stay the course of recovery if we want to get well. We'll need to remember they're all watching us now, looking more at what we're doing, then listening to what we're saying.
