Default The Great Physician

Sisters in Christ Worldwide

So some Pharisees walked up to Jesus and asked Him, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

And Jesus told them, “The healthy don’t need a doctor. The sick do.”

I read this recently when I was feeling pretty low and desperately needed a “spiritual doctor” to bring a bit of life and vigor to my exhausted spirit.

Oh, but Jesus spoke to me in those verses, reminding me that HE is the Great Physician even for the ailments of our souls. For from Him and Him alone comes healing in the sickness, joy in the pain and light in the dark. It is our Great Physician who calms our anxious hearts and stills the storms in our minds.

And sometimes the prescription may not be what we expect. How was He a “doctor” to the tax collectors and sinners? By eating and drinking with them! Healing can flow when we sit down in fellowship with our King and let words of life and encouragement flow between us. By enjoying Him and His presence.

Are you feeling spiritually burdened, numb, faint, frightened, exhausted or frozen? Knock on the door of your Master, sit at His table and talk to Him for a while.

And let Him administer His healing grace as only He can.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest!” Matthew 11:28

Lord, heal my heart so I may be whole and I will tell of your wonderful grace to those I meet!
