Default Do God’s Will

God's Word For Today

Do God’s Will

Read Jeremiah 41:1 through 43:13

Randy knocked on the door of his friend’s house. The day before, Randy had decided to leave his wife. He and Jan argued continually over everything. He just could not keep living this way. His friend, Jeff, might try to talk him out of it, but Randy needed a friend to talk to.

“I will pray for you, Randy,” Jeff said later. “But, will you promise to read Jeremiah 42 and 43 tonight? Let’s have coffee tomorrow.” Puzzled, Randy agreed.

So they entered Egypt in disobedience to the Lord and went as far as Tahpanhes (Jeremiah 43:7).

At the coffee shop, Randy shook Jeff’s hand. “Thank you, my friend. At first, I couldn’t understand why you told me to read this weird story totally unrelated to marriage. Then it hit me hard—I was doing what those men in the story did. They asked Jeremiah to pray for them and promised to do God’s will regardless of their own feelings. But they had no intention of doing anything except what they had already made up their minds to do.”

“What are you going to do?” asked Jeff.

Randy smiled, “I’m going home to my wife.”

Thought for Today: Obedience is submitting to God’s will.

Quicklook: Jeremiah 42:1–12
