Default Looking for Yes

Looking for Yes (1 Kings 18:43–44)

Do you sometimes feel that your life has a big no stamped on it? That’s probably how Thomas Edison felt after he had tried literally about 10,000 times to invent the light bulb without success. And yet, when asked about it, Edison said, “I have not failed; I just found 10,000 ways it won’t work.” Finally, he found the yes and has gone down in history as one of the great inventors of our time.

Edison was not stuck on the no that seemed prevalent in his work. He was looking for the yes. And eventually God rewarded him with the yes and the success he pursued.

God has yes planned for your future too. He promised that he has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). So continue looking for the yes he has in store for you.

The key is to have faith in the God of yes. Don’t listen to people who try to talk you out of your dreams and hopes. Don’t focus on the no. Keep moving forward, honoring God, praising him for his goodness and celebrating his love.

You may be living in the no right now, but don’t get stuck there. Keep on dreaming. Keep on believing. And keep on looking for the yes in your future.

The favors of God will surely come looking for you too—new doors will open, new levels of God’s blessings will come, your hopes and dreams will be fulfilled. Trust in the God of yes!
