Default Committed To Helping Others

COMMITTED TO HELPING OTHERS

As the baby boomers continue to retire and grow older, they face many issues in life for the very first time. Some have health issues. Others are taking care of their elderly parents. Some are living on a limited income. Then there are those who are already in a nursing home with very little interaction with the outside world. Baby boomers are in the 50s to 70s and while some are healthy and doing great, there are others who are having tough times.

Along with the baby boomers, there are others who are dealing with health issues, finances woes and other troubling living conditions. There are those who are poor, homeless and living in dangerous home situations. Everywhere we look, there are opportunities to help others in need. Sometimes people in our families need assistance but we just don’t see it.

Being committed to helping others means we look for opportunities to serve. We seek out those who are battered, lonely, poor, helpless, etc. We find ways to show them kindness on a regular basis. When we stay committed to helping others, we will see a big difference in this world. We will be blessed by God as He works through us to bless others.

SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 9:9-12 “As the Scriptures say, ‘They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.’ For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how committed you are to helping others.
2. List what you have done to help others.
3. Know God wants you to be committed to giving.
4. Seek ways to give to someone in need every day.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for Your guiding word that instructs us to help others. We thank You for the blessings You give to us and pray You will show us opportunities to share what we have with others. We know others will see Jesus in us when we share what we have with others and tell them about You. Thank You for the blessings of giving. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Proverbs 31:8-9 “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” (NLT)

Hebrews 13:16 “And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” (NLT)

Romans 15:1b-3a “We must not just please ourselves. We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. For even Christ didn’t live to please himself.” (NLT)

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (NLT)

FOCUS: Proverbs 11:25 “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (NIV)
