Endings as Completions We don't always have control over how and when certain things end, but we can control how we view and characterize most endings. I'm not referring to death here, but rather the endings of projects, jobs, relationships, friendships, and marriages. I think our first instinct is to think of endings as hard and painful, but they can also bring pride, satisfaction, and joy. A friend of mine recently shared some profound thinking about an important ending in her life - the end of her long marriage. She wondered aloud why it was that ending a long marriage had to be seen as something tragic. She preferred to think that ending her marriage was simply about completing something. Not a ruptured or destroyed or even broken marriage, just a beautifully completed story about two people who had created a family and were ready to move on to something else. Her thoughts made me think of the Dr. Seuss quote "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." How do you feel about accepting that some endings are just natural and beautiful completions? Beautiful things sometimes end to make room for more beauty. Today's reading is from the book She Recovers Every Day: Meditations for Women*
