Default Holding Grudges

HOLDING GRUDGES

If we really think about holding grudges and why we do it we will see it’s really pointless. We hold grudges because we want to hurt the other person for hurting us or for doing something we didn’t like or appreciate. We hold grudges because we are upset with them and want them to suffer. However, most of the time, the person who we are holding a grudge against doesn’t even know it. Most of the time they just continue living their lives and we are the ones who are most affected by the grudges we hold.

Mark 11:25 “But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know if we want to be forgiven by You, we need to forgive others. We know if we want to live the life You have called us to live, we need to forgive others. We know holding grudges is not what is right to do. Reveal to us any grudges we hold against another person and help us to forgive them. Help us to move on and show love to them. We put our faith in You to help us do what is right. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Holding grudges hurts us more than it hurts others.

When we can release a grudge against another person, we can better help them.

We can’t get to know the needs of others when we are holding grudges against them.

When we stop holding grudges and forgive others, we can better serve God.

When we stop bearing grudges against others, we can better show love to them.

Leviticus 19:18 “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.” (NLT)

Focus: Ask God to reveal any grudges we have against others then go to the person and forgive them.

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
